Approximately 50 vehicles have been covered with what seems to be human blood in the Germany's city of Hanau near Frankfurt, police confirm authorities.
Automobiles, exterior walls and postboxes were vandalized, sometimes with prohibited symbols, they announced in a official communication.
Police state they were alerted during the night on Wednesday, when a individual discovered that a automobile in the Lamboy area of Hanau had been smeared with a reddish fluid.
The substance had been drawn in the shape of a swastika, they added.
Police then found multiple other marked cars and building exteriors in the adjacent neighborhood.
Nazi symbols are illegal in Germany under laws banning the visible presentation of symbols from the Nazi era.
Officials report early analysis suggest the fluid was likely blood from a person.
"Currently there is no lead as to its origin; investigators are presently not cognizant of any harm in association with the event," they added.
Municipal representatives stated they were trying "to unravel the incident" and have asked to the public for details.
A senior official stated the incident made him speechless and needed to be resolved promptly.
"This event hits the core of Hanau and reopens the trauma of the extremist terrorist attack in 2020," he wrote on a platform, mentioning the death of nine victims by a shooter focusing on individuals of foreign heritage in 2020.
